Are you looking for zero waste make-up that actually works? I’ve been looking for zero waste foundation and concealer for a white now. I still had some of my last natural foundation left. It gives great coverage and is in a glass bottle, but I wanted to see if I could get an even better foundation, with zero waste. Then I found Love The Planet zero waste, plastic-free mineral make-up.
This zero waste natural make-up brand have samples in compostable packets, so I ordered a few samples to try. And it was so good I bought the whole set! So what makes this zero waste make-up so good? Read my Love The Planet make-up review to find out!
Love The Planet’s Eco Credentials
I’ll start by letting you know about Love The Planet. This award-winning Scottish-born beauty company sells a capsule collection of plastic-free make-up, that’s made in the UK.
“Our mineral makeup is vegan, cruelty free, paraben and palm oil free, and dispatched in plastic free packaging — reusable, recyclable tins and compostable refill pouches! Orders are sent out to our customers in paper envelopes, with our products ready to be decanted into an existing container owned by the customer.”
Love The Planet
You can buy a tin of make-up, or a compostable pouch, which you can (carefully!) pour in to your own container. Love The Planet say; “Our pouches are made from paper, starch and cellulose film, which is made from wood fibre, so our plastic free packaging will biodegrade in home compost! This includes the zip lock strip which is made from starch, not plastic.”
Their products contain mica which has been ethically and responsibly sourced without the use of child labour.
I wanted to try this foundation before I bought it, so ordered a set of samples. I ordered three shades of which came in these compostable pouches to test the colour and I’m so glad I did this as I would have ordered the wrong shade otherwise. You can see I have the three palest shades, Fair, Glow and Pebble on my arm. Although Pebble looks like the closest match here, on my face, Glow was the perfect match.
I was impressed by the coverage too, so I ordered the full set when it was on offer!
Love The Planet Make-up Collection Review
I ordered their Starter Gift Set. It has a full size mineral foundation, concealer, finishing powder, blusher and two eyeshadows, plus some make-up remover pads in a cotton net bag. They have a special offer of a set of make-up brushes included free too!
So this whole set was £58 which considering their eco credentials (and the performance, which I will come to below) I think this is a good offer. You only need to use the tiniest bit of this make-up for great results, so these will last me a long time — in fact I don’t think I’ll ever have to buy blusher or eyeshadow ever again!
Some of the brushes were in plastic wrappers, which I do think is a shame as other than that, it was all plastic-free. The two bigger brushes have a plastic case as well which will be useful for travel, to keep them clean.
1 x Blusher (I chose Pink) (worth £12)
1 x Concealer (I chose Light) (worth £12)
1 x full size Foundation (I chose Glow) (worth £15)
2 x eyeshadows — Sand and Taupe (worth £20)
1 x set of muslin cleansing rounds and wipe (worth £8)
1 x full size Translucent Perfecting Powder (worth £15) (not shown in this photo)
How To Use Love the Planet Zero Waste Make-up
Now on to the results. This is how I built my natural look from bare skin (with my favourite SPF day cream of course) to a full face of make-up. Here is a Before and After (I also used my favourite Inika Bold Lash Mascara and Madara Brow Pomade.) All of these photos are as I took them, with no filters or adjustments.
Start by brushing the Love The Planet Concealer beneath eyes, around the nose and over any blemishes or redness.
I wouldn’t recommend it for dry skin as it feels a little ‘tight’ beneath my eyes. It’s great for red tones and blemishes though!
Next, use the big brush to blend a little mineral Foundation over the whole face. As you can see it covers well, but looks natural. You can add more powder in areas that need more coverage.
TIP: for the best coverage, use a Kabuki brush.
Add a dusting of Finishing Powder over the whole face. This gives it a more matte, perfected look, and helps it all stay in place longer.
I also use this powder over my liquid foundation and it works brilliantly to set that too.
Dust the Blusher over the apples of your cheeks using the angled brush. I also patted a little onto my lips.
Here I have filled in my eyebrows with Madara Brow Pomade, and added Inika Bold Lash Mascara.
Finally, add both shades of Eyeshadow. I used Taupe all over the lid, using the blending brush. I added a little Sand along the crease and lash line with the liner brush. They have good pigmentation: I only used a tiny amount.
How I Wear Love The Planet for Best Results
Using the make-up as it is gives excellent results, and it stays put really well (even when you wear a face mask!).
For special occasions where I want a flawless finish, I wear a light layer of Madara CC Cream, which is my desert island face product. I use Hynt natural cream concealer beneath my eyes, instead of the powder mineral concealer. This is what I am wearing in this unfiltered photo, along with the Love The Planet make-up and Inika Bold Lash Mascara.
