Have you made any new years resolutions? Or have your broken them yet? (Dry January, I’m looking at you!) I’m not massively in to them normally. But as the world is quite a scary place at the moment, I feel following some nice positive healthy skincare habits would be a good one.

Top 10 Healthy Skincare Habits to Get Into For a Great Natural Glow

We can’t control what’s going on in the world, but we can take control of our skincare to form healthy skincare habits that will give us a natural glow. If you’re wearing a face mask a lot, these skincare habits will be even better. So read on my for my top ten healthy skincare habits to give your skin a gorgeous natural glow (and indulge in a little much-needed self care.)

Healthy Skincare Habits 1: Use SPF Every Day. Yes, EVERY Day

The single best thing you can do for your skin is to wear a high factor SPF cream every single day. When I say high, I mean SPF30 or above. (Though there is some debate about what level of protection SPF50 or above actually gives. So many people think that you won’t get burned on a cloudy day, but those rays are still there, even in England. And we’re likely to be more complacent and not bother at all, or stay out longer on overcast days. Look for a sun cream that gives broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. This means it works against both UVA (skin ageing) and UVB (burning) rays.

Kimberly Sayer Ultra Light Facial Moisturizer SPF30 Review

For me, using a facecream with SPF30 built in is the easiest way to get daily protection, though this may not be enough in summer. Kimberly Sayer Ultra Light Facial Moisturizer SPF30 is perfect, and I’ve used it pretty much every day, apart from when I wear actual sun cream, for nearly ten years now.

It’s light yet nourishing, non greasy, smells amazing and is a great base for make-up. It also lasts for ages and gives both UVA and UVB protection.

REN Clean Screen Mattifying Mineral SPF 30 is the best sunscreen for combination and oily skin

So what about sun cream? REN make my favourite clean facial sun cream, and I use it during the summer. Read all about this great non-greasy facial sun cream here. It’s mattifying so makes a great make-up base, and offers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

Healthy Skincare Habits 2: Invest in an Eye Cream, and use Morning and Evening

Did you know our eye area is the first to show signs of ageing (or smile lines, as I like to call them)? The skin here is much thinner and more delicate, so it’s more prone to damage.

Along with wearing some good quality sunglasses (check out this fab range of recycled plastic sunglasses at Weath if you need new ones), using an eye cream is the best way to protect this area.

I’m currently using Kimberly Sayer Cellular Extract Eye Lift Gel and so far I’m very impressed. I also really rate these gorgeous luxurious eye creams by Jane Scrivner.

Healthy Skincare Habits 3: Double Cleanse Every Evening

My skin has improved so much since I’ve started double cleansing every evening. Cleansing once can leave skin with a film of pore-blocking cleanser, or even some leftover dirt or make-up. Cleansing with a nourishing first cleanse, followed by a gentle second cleanse leaves skin throughly clean, yet calm and balanced.

Here’s how you double cleanse:

Step 1:

Remove your eye make-up remover, if you wear it. I tried and tested four natural eye make-up removers here if you’re looking for a good one. Of course I recommend using a reusable make-up pad (find some here) so you don’t have to use single use cotton wool pads.

Step 2:

Apply a creamy balm or oil-based cleanser to your dry face. Yes, even if you have oily and/or blemish prone skin like me! This dissolves all make-up, and pore-clogging dirt quickly and easily. Taking a few moments to breath deeply as you massage the cleanser all over your face is also great for your mental health.

Organic House Clean & Calm Hot Cloth Cleanser is my all-time favourite cleansing balm. It removes all make-up, leaving skin deep cleansed, calm, and moisturised. Read all about this gorgeously-scented organic cleanser here.

Step 3:

Polish away the cleanser (along with all the make-up and grime) with a muslin cloth or a flannel. This also gives skin a lovely gentle exfoliation which makes skin glow. Splash skin with clean water.

Step 4:

For your second cleanse, use a foaming face wash (check out this post for my top natural face washes for different budgets). Or, sweep a micellar water over skin with a reusable face pad. My favourite natural micellar water is by Mossa, available here. It works so well at removing all traces of cleanser without stripping skin.

Healthy Skincare Habits 4: Exfoliate 2 or 3 Times A Week

Gently exfoliating dead skin cells is a great way to reveal the smoother, glowing new skin cells that are hiding beneath the dead skin. You can read an in depth review of my favourite exfoliator here.

Healthy Skincare Habits 5: Use a Face Mask Once A Week

Using a weekly face mask is a lovely way to relax (especially if you use it in the bath) and your skin will thank you too.

Green People Coconut Charcoal Purifying Face Mask review

My current favourite for when my skin is congested is from Green People. Their Coconut Charcoal Purifying Face Mask is gorgeous to use and leaves skin so soft and smooth. You can read my full review of this fab natural and ethical face mask here.

Madara Organic Skincare facial treatments and masks

Madara also have a fantastic range of eco luxe face masks with no nasties. Pop over to check out my review of several of their face masks.

Healthy Skincare Habits 6: Give Skin Some Beauty Sleep

Skin regenerates overnight, so using a great moisturiser (alongside the eye cream we have already talked about) every night is a great healthy skincare habit to get into. Green People’s Fruitful Nights Night Cream is my go-to natural night cream. It’s natural, rich without being greasy, smells lush and a little goes a long way. Strangely, I’ve never given a full review of it, but it’s the one I always go back to.

Green People also make the most gorgeous Sleep Mask, which you can read about here. It’s like a super-charged night cream for 30+ that works while you sleep so you wake up with gorgeous skin.

Healthy Skincare Habits 7: Use a Serum or Facial Oil Before Your Night Cream

Boosting your skincare regime by adding a natural facial oil or serum is a quick and easy extra step that makes a great healthy skincare habit. They are especially recommended for dry skin, as they give skin a much-needed moisture boost. But they actually work really well for combination or even oily skins (in moderation).

My favourite serum is from Green People Nordic Roots, which you can read about here. Just smooth a small amount over your face and neck before your night cream.

As a subscriber of the Love Lula Natural Beauty Box, I have tried tonnes of facial oils. I rate the Balm Balm Little Miracle Rosehip Serum as one of my favourite oils.

Healthy Skincare Habits 8: Use a Massage Roller

Rolling over your face with a cool rose quartz roller is a lovely luxurious treat, and is a great healthy skincare habit. Just smooth your favourite serum or facial oil over your face. Then slowly roll the roller over your skin, working up and out. It helps lymphatic drainage, is great for stress, helps your skincare sink in better and just really feels lovely!

I have a lovely rose quartz facial roller from Love Lula, but I can’t find it now. However they do sell a jade roller which looks very similar here.

Healthy Skincare Habits 9: Drink More Water

You know you’ll never get a post about healthy skincare habits without out this one: drinking more water. I’m not going to go on about it as the benefits of drinking water are well known and many! My tip is to pop a reusable water bottle on your desk (even if you work from home. That way, it’s always nice and fresh and cold. That way you’re more likely to actually drink it! WEARTH have lots of fab reusable bottles here.

Healthy Skincare Habits 10: Get More Sleep

Again, getting more sleep is a no brainer when it comes to natural healthy skincare habits. I swear by a blackout blind (see my quick and easy blackout blind makeover here) and my sunset/sunrise clock.

A Nicer Way to Wake Up, Feeling Refreshed

I hope you have found my top ten healthy skincare habits useful. Even if you just add one healthy skincare habit, it will make your skin look and feel better. So why not Pin it for later?
